Been doin a bit of that myself, a new derailieur mount “standard” has just been introduced that facilitates taking it even further without f’ing up front shifting. It works well to shorten up wheelbases on bikes you might want large tire clearance on. My personal cross bikes have had as short a chainstay as common on a road racer.
